As a Registered Social Worker I believe mental health therapy should include blending clinical modalities, such as neurolinguistic programming, cognitive behavioural therapy with holistic approaches such as mindfulness, meditation, breath work and Reiki.

Hi, I'm Mileah!

As a Registered Social Worker in Ontario, I have worked with a wide range of individuals and ages in different capacities, including the school board and various mental health therapy agencies. With a strong background in trauma and continuing education on neuroplasticity and neuroscience, all my approaches are geared towards helping the mind, body and spirit heal from past wounds in ways that each client feels comfortable.

I believe that each person has within them intuition, wisdom and resources to overcome their challenges and reach their full potential through knowing their true-self on an intimate and in-depth level. My goal is to help you connect with your authentic self, explore your natural abilities, and harness and utilize use strengths; I assist in helping you identify negative patterns and move towards clarity in your life. My goal is to assist you build self- awareness and confidence where you feel positive and in charge of your own life.

I believe in tailoring each therapeutic intervention according to the individual and where they are at in their healing journey. This could mean incorporating evidence-based practices such as, meditation, breath work, reiki and mindfulness as a means of activating the body’s natural calming response to stress, allowing for greater experiences of relaxation and stress reduction.

Trauma

Trauma has a tremendous impact on the brain and essentially disrupts the nervous system, which in turn can effect our emotional regulation.

Using an amalgamation of different evidence-based modalities and using the newest information on neuroplasticity, our goal is to rewire the brain and make new connections in order to be able to heal from the inside out.

Anxiety

Anxiety is a common and natural response to stress or perceived threats. It's a complex emotion characterized by feelings of worry, apprehension, or fear about future events or situations. It can manifest as physical sensations, racing thoughts, or behaviors aimed at avoiding the source of anxiety.

While a certain level of anxiety is normal, it becomes problematic when it significantly interferes with daily life, causing distress or impairing functioning.

Depression

Depression can be likened to a pervasive fog that envelops one's thoughts and emotions, creating a persistent sense of sadness and emptiness. It can cast a shadow over activities that once brought joy, making even simple tasks feel overwhelmingly burdensome.

This experience often brings changes in sleep patterns, alterations in appetite, and a notable decrease in energy levels. It's as if a heavy weight rests on both the mind and heart, impacting various facets of daily life.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Somatic Therapy

Somatic therapy is an approach to psychotherapy that emphasizes the mind-body connection, focusing on the interaction between the body and the mind in healing and personal growth.

It recognizes that our experiences, emotions, and traumas are not only stored in our minds but also within our bodies.

Internal Family Systems

IFS therapy can be particularly effective for individuals dealing with emotional distress, trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues.

IFS helps build self-awareness, emotional regulation, and inner harmony by fostering a compassionate and non-judgmental relationship with the diverse aspects of their inner world.

Meditation

Mediation is a mindfulness practice that involves focusing attention and awareness to achieve mental clarity and emotional calmness.

I use mediation with my clients to help reduce stress, manage anxiety, and improve overall well-being, helping clients develop self-awareness, regulate emotions, and cultivate a more balanced perspective on their thoughts and feelings.

Neuro Linguistic Programming

Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) works by examining and altering the connections between our thoughts, language, and behaviors.

It operates on the idea that our subjective experiences are shaped by how we perceive and interpret the world around us, and that by understanding and adjusting these perceptions, we can achieve specific outcomes

Reiki

Reiki, a form of energy healing, is often used in conjunction with mental health practices to complement traditional therapy.

It involves the practitioner using their hands to channel healing energy to the recipient, aiming to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and create a sense of balance and well-being.
